Synopsis:

This guide explains how to inspect an Element on a website using Google Chrome to retrieve identifiable information and to help troubleshoot.

Applicable to:

Naming Location Strings within a Page File and troubleshooting test errors.

Prerequisite:

None. Google Chrome comes already installed with the Inspect Element feature.

How to:

1. Go to the application being tested by Janova.  This example uses the Google homepage.
2. Find the element that you want to inspect.
3. Right click on the selected element.
4. Choose Inspect Element from the options given. The following example uses the Google Search button.
5. The source code will appear at the bottom of the page with the selected element highlighted with all identifying information.
6. You can access other information by expanding or contracting the code using the '+' and '-' boxes respectively.
7. To inspect new elements on the website repeat steps 3-6 or scroll over the code which automatically highlights the corresponding element on the page.
8. Once the element details have been inspected they can be used to create the location strings in the page file.

   This example uses the Google search button from above with the name="btnG".

9. The same process is repeated for the search text box, 'I'm Feeling lucky' button and the Google logo elements.
10. Once the necessary elements have been defined in the page file they can then be used to build the features and scenarios for testing.
